The Secretary-General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, Ali Al-Qaradaghi, called on Wednesday, February 8, 2020, for a global Islamic humanitarian campaign to save children from disease, poverty and hunger.
Al-Qaradaghi says, in a post on his Facebook account, that “10 million children die annually without hearts shaking for them, and there are 10 million Yemeni children in need of urgent aid.”
“This international news hurt me very much, and on the other hand there are tens of thousands of billionaires in our Arab and Islamic world and in the world,” he adds
“I call for a global, Islamic, humanitarian campaign to save these children from the diseases that kill them, and the poverty and malnutrition that destroy their lives,” he continues.
He asks, denouncing: “How will we answer before the Lord of the Worlds, who asks us about every person who died from hunger?”
And he continues: “We are in the ten [days of] good deeds and blessings (the first days of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah), so let us have a humane scare, an Islamic mercy, and a positive patriotic and national feeling towards our nation, the people of our country, and our relatives: (He who is not merciful will not be mercied).”
He also says, “and last week, the “Norwegian Refugee Council” (non-governmental) said that “25 percent of Yemeni families are threatened with hunger, after losing their full income due to the Corona virus.”
“Millions of Yemenis who face dangerous levels of hunger are being pushed into extreme poverty, since Corona began to spread in Yemen, which has been devastated by conflict,” he adds
“For the sixth year, Yemen is witnessing a violent war that has led to one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world, as 80 percent of the population is in need of aid, and the conflict has pushed millions to the brink of starvation,” Al-Qaradaghi states
And he adds that “The complication of the conflict is further deteriorated by the fact that it has regional extensions, as since March 2015, an Arab coalition led by the Yemen’s neighbor Saudi Arabia has carried out military operations in Yemen in support of government forces, in the face of the Houthis supported by Iran, and who control several provinces, including the capital, Sana’a.”
